Bro. Sean McCallister
Sean McCallister is a preacher of the gospel and worships at the First Avenue church of Christ in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He is married to Luciana and they have two assertive and clever daughters, Isabella and Serena. They make their home in Ardmore.
Sean is a native of Charleston, West Virginia where his family has lived since before the American Revolutionary War. He is a descendant of another gospel preacher, his great-great grandfather, James F. Cobbs. Sean was baptized into Christ on October 22, 1990 at the same church building where Bro. Cobbs used to preach. He grew up in a large but close family that loved to sing gospel music at family gatherings and holidays. His two great grandfathers, Durward Booher and Marvin Perdue (both members of the church of Christ), taught him the rudiments of music and the importance of scriptural context when studying the Bible. Sean has always considered himself blessed to have known all of his great grandparents, with the exception of one who had already passed, and to have known two great-great grandparents. He is still indebted to his mother and stepfather, Vanessa and Larry, for trusting him with their cars to make frequent trips to church meetings all over the southern and western U.S. After his baptism, Sean began to take more interest in public speaking. He began by simply reading the passage selected by the main speaker of the occasion. Soon he read entire chapters with emphasis and voice inflection that caused the congregation to encourage him to give sermons. In January 1991, at the age of 16, Sean gave his first sermon lesson and has since been included in the speaker rotations at every congregation he has attended. Thanks to the guidance and advice of his aforementioned family members, his attention to detail and scriptural context has helped him deliver timely sermons again and again. He too expresses the need to keep the context for the points being pondered lest the hearers be led astray. In addition to public speaking, Sean has also written for two internationally circulated christian magazines, The Old Paths Advocate and the Christian Informer, and is a past contributor to the website christianlandmark.com. |
